  • Please note that the lectures for Sept. 5th and Sept. 8th have been switched, with "The Role of Physical Plant" by Pate occuring on Sept. 5th and "The Buildings We Work, Play, and Live in" occuring on Sept. 8th.

Course Objective:
To learn about a variety of environmental issues at various scales, ranging from local to international in scope. This course will also give the students an opportunity to interact with a number of professors from the various disciplines involved in Sewanee’s Environmental Studies Program.
 

Grading:
3 tests (all comprehensive)
· Test 1 = 15%,
· Test 2 = 20%,
· Test 3 = 25%

Reading essays and quizzes = 15%

Project = 20%

Attendance and participation = 5%

Student Projects:

You may work individually or in teams of two or three. No groups greater than three!!!!

The theme of this presentation should be related to the good and bad aspects of environmental stewardship at a particular location. You may focus on Sewanee, the Plateau, the SE USA, or some other place. The final project will include graphics and text. The final product could be a Powerpoint presentation, a series of photos, drawings, paintings, a video, or whatever format that you prefer. The text should accompany the graphics, but the format is up to you (prose, poetry, verbal).

Examples of possible topics:
· Garbage collection & disposal
· Campus energy
· Water
· Paper use
· Food/waste use and disposal at McClurg Dining Hall

The final product must be nice, neat, of professional quality, and presented on the assigned date!
