Professor Mohiuddin is interested in gender issues relating to the economic status of women in the U.S. and the Third World. She has done several studies in the area, including policy papers for the World Bank on the strategies for women's development in Pakistan and Turkey. She has been involved in consultancy research with the World Bank and several United Nations agencies such as the WFP, IFAD, FAO, ILO, and UNDP. She has also been actively engaged in community development work and is represented on the Board of Directors of several such organizations in Tennessee. Recently, the Governor of Tennessee appointed her as a member to the Economic Council on Women to represent independent colleges and Universities in Tennessee.

• Core research in the field of economic development, including agricultural development, urban informal sector employment, poverty and female-headed households, microenterprise lending, specialized microfinance institutions, gender and development issues.
• Consultancy research for the World Bank involving 'project', 'sector', and 'policy' work in the Agriculture Operations Division of the Europe, Middle East and North Africa Region, the Industry Operations Division of the same region, the Country Operations Division of the same region, and the Women in Development Division. She has participated in several Identification, Pre-appraisal, Appraisal, Supervision, and Review Missions of the World Bank to Pakistan and Turkey.
• Consultancy research for the United Nations agencies including the World Food Program (WFP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). She has participated in several Management Review-cum-Appraisal and Evaluation missions to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, and Yemen.
