Carl P Heinemann Lecturer in Economics Office: Van Ness Basement Phone: (931) 598-1580 E-Mail: cheinema@sewanee.edu |
Carl P. Heinemann grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated from McCallie School and Vanderbilt University. Thereafter, he accepted an R.O.T.C. commission and served as the Accountable Officer for the 8th Infantry Division Supply Office in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Upon discharge from the service, he returned to school to advance his financial skills.
Upon obtaining his CPA credentials, he began his professional career with Ernst & Young LLP, followed by a stint with a large local accounting firm. In 1981 he started his own practice, Heinemann & Associates, PLLC, which serves individuals as well as businesses. Heinemann holds the professional designation of Certified Valuation Analyst which qualifies him to perform business valuations and litigation support services. In 2006 he was appointed to the Sports and Entertainment Conference Committee of the Tennessee Society of CPAs.
Since 1987 he has served as a part-time member of the faculty, regularly teaching Financial Accounting during the Advent Semester and Managerial Accounting during the Easter Semester. These two courses are electives within the curriculum and consequently attract students from other majors besides economics. Pre-law and pre-MBA students find these courses very relevant to their future field of study. Pre-med. students can benefit as well since managed care mandates a more businesslike approach to the delivery of health services. These courses also serve as a good foundation for future bankers and stockbrokers.
Mr. Heinemann has been active in his community, serving recently as President of the Brained/East Hamilton Branch of the Greater Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce and Treasurer of the Chamber Branch Fundraisers. He has served as Treasurer of several non-profit organizations as well as on the Finance and Endowment Committees of his church. He currently serves as President of the Greater Chattanooga Area Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development.
