Robert R. Gottfried Professor of Economics Office: Walsh-Ellet 313 Phone: (931) 598-1243 E-Mail: rgottfri@sewanee.edu |
Professor Gottfried is interested in the interrelationships between humans and their natural environment: How and why do people change their environment, what ecological impact does this change have, and how does this impact, in turn, affect other people. Most recently he has been researching forest policy in Costa Rica, the effectiveness of Tennessee's Forest Greenbelt program, the role of forests in the economic development of the southern Cumberland Plateau, and the causes and effects of conversion of native hardwood forests to other uses on the Cumberland Plateau. He collaborates closely with a number of faculty and students in other departments in the University in these projects. See the following web site for more information: lal.sewanee.edu.
In addition, Professor Gottfried is very interested in the relationship between Christian theology and economics. Download a copy of Dr. Gottfried’s book on the subject (effective 2002 Dr. Gottfried now owns the copyright for the book): Economics, Ecology, and the Roots of Western Faith: Perspectives from the Garden.
